MONTREAL – Steven Butler will face Mexican Jose de Jesus Macias with the WBC Francophone and NABF titles at stake at a gala held on January 30 in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
Butler (28-2-1, 24 KOs) originally had a meeting with Francis Lafrenière, of Côteau-du-Lac, who had announced that this fight was to be his last.
For Butler, it will be a return to the ring, he who lost to Ryota Murata in December 2019. The 25-year-old Montrealer was trying to snatch the belt of the World Boxing Association (WBA) from the Japanese .
Macias (27-10-3, 13 KOs) is recognized as a boxer who never refuses a challenge. He has already offered excellent oppositions to Trois-Rivières Mikael Zewski, Souleymane Cissokho and powerful puncher Kerman Lejarraga.
“Macias is a tough guy who has faced many famous boxers including Erickson Lubin (23-1-0, 16 KOs) who is currently 7th in the world,” said Camille Estephan, president of Eye of the Tiger Management.
As the second main fight of the evening, Sadriddin Akhmedov (11-0-0, 10 KOs) will face his biggest career challenge as he faces Stephen Danyo (17-3-3, 6 K.-O.) for the WBA Continental super welterweight belt.
