- Boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is officially free to come to an agreement with the promoter of his choice.
Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN have severed ties with the popular Mexican, reports ESPN network reporter Salvador Rodriguez. After several days of negotiations, representatives of Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions have found common ground ending their association.
It is, therefore, the end of a contractual dispute between the middleweight champion, Golden boy and DAZN which reached the court. Last September, Alvarez filed a federal breach of contract lawsuit against online viewing service DAZN, Golden Boy Promotions, and its president and CEO, Oscar De La Hoya.
Alvarez argued that the promoter and broadcaster broke the terms of the 11-fight, $ 365 million contracts initialled two years ago. He wanted the US $ 280 million in damages.
A source told ESPN that Alvarez and his team are aiming for a return to the ring on December 19 against IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant, who is in the Premier Boxing Promotions team.
